Sustainable energy production
We are developing the ability of our energy production to adapt to climate-related risk factors. We are improving our personnel training, increasing knowledge and the capabilities of our customers and other stakeholders related to slowing down climate change, adapting to it, mitigating the effects and predicting it. The policies, strategic planning and implementation of our business include measures regarding climate change.
We are diversifying our already low-carbon energy production by 2030, based on cost-effective, reliable, fossil-free/carbon-neutral and modern solutions, such as electric boilers and district eat accumulators. This enables reliable and modern district heating and related energy services and solutions for our customers. We will improve our energy efficiency and extend the Energy Efficiency Agreement for a new term in 2026.
Our activities have an impact on biodiversity. Among other things, we use biomass that comes from sustainable forestry (PEFC certified). We use methods in our land areas that can prevent and significantly reduce the effects of harmful alien species on land and water ecosystems and keep the number of alien species under control or eliminate them. We support, for example through the Vesijärvi Foundation, the protection, restoration and sustainable use of natural diversity and ecosystems.
We do research and development cooperation with actors promoting the development of the Lahti region and Päijät-Häme, e.g. LUT, LAB, LADEC.
We reduce the generation of waste through prevention and reuse. We recycle our waste and offer it for reuse whenever possible. We ensure environmentally sustainable handling of chemicals and waste throughout their entire life cycle in accordance with agreed international operating frameworks and minimize their release into the air, water or land.
