Our story

Over the course of more than a hundred years, we have grown and developed: a small electricity utility has turned into a modern, versatile energy group that promotes the green transition and implements circular economy solutions for our customers. We are proud of our long history, during which we have often led the way in the energy sector. We will continue to introduce new solutions with an open mind – for the benefit of our customers and the climate.

The story of Lahti Energy starts at the beginning of the last century as a municipal electricity utility. The operations of the City of Lahti’s electricity utility commenced on 8 December 1907. On the same day, the first street lights were switched on in the city. The electricity utility located on Vesijärvenkatu was the City of Lahti’s first public building.

Lahti Energy’s vision is to be boldly climate-positive by 2035. Our long-term objective is to make bold investments and choices to go beyond carbon-neutral production and become a carbon sink. We are boldly climate-positive, we strengthen the vitality of the areas in which we operate, we create wealth for our owner, and we will become the number one in our sector for our personnel and our customers.

We will achieve bold climate positivity by concentrating on our four strategic priorities: production, networks, services and experience. We will achieve our vision by making our energy production carbon-negative, creating even more customer-oriented energy networks, electricity, heating, and cooling services, and looking after our customers and personnel so that we are their first choice.
